The God Factor : Africa in Perspective..

Religion has been part of our lives for as long as we can remember.. As a child growing up in an African community, most of us were born pretty much into the church, mosque and the likes. We didn't have any choice whatsoever to decide what religion we wanted because it was already decided for by our parents especially our mothers. As a matter of fact, many of us didn't really understand the reason behind our religion whether Christianity or Islam. We just went along with it to please our mothers, fathers and the community..
History has it that missionaries from elsewhere brought Christianity, Islam and the other religions to Africa and inculcated it into us. Today, Africa is the most Religious economy in the world with less developmental projects as compared to those who actually brought this religion to us.We derive satisfaction in praying and seemingly being religious while at the back stage, when no one is looking we do all kinds of negative things that thwarts our development as a country and a continent as a whole. Most of the politicians and many heads of governmental institutions in Africa are religious and yet corruption goes unchecked.Do we really understand religion? Are we just pretending to be religious? Do we have no fear for the God who we claim to be pleasing in our respective religions?. I guess we will never know.
Many heads of Religious groups recently are using religion to amass wealth from members by using emotional blackmail and psychic abilities. It will surprise you that a Professor in Africa will stand in bright daylight and bathe naked if he or she is instructed to do so by a religious leader:that's where we have gotten to as a continent.. Also some heads of religion institutions are using psychic abilities to sleep with married women as a way of opening their womb or cleansing them from evil spirits.. Others have denied their parents because some religious leader told them that their parents possess evil spirits... This is quite sad!
We all need a God Factor to be accountable to at the end of the day, but that shouldn't prevent anyone from using common sense. Most religious leaders out there are fake and it is high time we distinguished between them... Africa should pray while doing works because prayer alone cannot construct roads , build good infrastructure, provide portable drinking water or prevent you from getting syphilis when you have been promiscuous.. Finally let us be open minded and cause a positive change in any area of life we find ourselves.
#peace.
It's so sad on how and what Christianity thrives on in Africa, i wont be suprised if the next generation in Africa will be the first to drive christianity out of it's continent. Christianity is feeding on the developmental flesh of AFRICA!!!
