THE LAMP DEVOTION
Psalm 42:9-11
I will say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?†10 As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, while they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?†11 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.
What do you do when you find yourself in a corner all by yourself with no one to talk to? For example, something happens to you in the night at a time you cannot call your pastor because you think it is too late? What if you feel that all your friends and loved ones have forsaken you, and the devil continues to paint all the dark pictures in your mind concerning the situation?
Between the time he was anointed as king and the time he was finally crowned King of Israel, David had moments like the one described above. From the passage today it is clear that he initially got himself into a pity party, asking all the questions there were to ask. Then in the twinkling of an eye his eyes opened and reckoned with the God who anointed him as king of Israel when he was yet a young boy.
Then the shaking began. He shook fear off his system. He instructed his soul to literally line up with the God who had demonstrated faith in him to anoint him king. Then he went into praise and worship.
What you must understand is that the situation may not have changed immediately, but the state of his heart and mind changed, and that is exactly what we need when we go through hard times.
Prayer
1. Thank God for giving you the capacity to wake yourself up in times of trouble.
2. Pray that you will draw from God’s resources to encourage yourself always.
3. Father, please keep me constantly aware of Your presence with me always.
Declarations
I declare that I am not alone in this journey of life. God is always by my side. When I am sad, God is with me, when it seems all have forsaken me, God is still with me. Therefore, I will always lift myself up from self-pity and rise to the position God has placed me, seated in the heavens with Christ far above principality and power.
