THE LAMP DEVOTION
Psalm 44:4-8
You are my King, O God; command victories for Jacob. 5 Through You we will push down our enemies; Through Your name, we will trample those who rise up against us. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. 7 But You have saved us from our enemies, and have put to shame those who hated us. 8 In God we boast all day long and praise Your name forever.
Each time you find David writing something about God, you can be sure of a good opportunity to know God better. Most of David’s writings were done out of the experience of walking with God through all the changing scenes of life. David saw God help him kill the bear and lion, and then slew Goliath before the then whole world; then he went into the life of a fugitive, wandering in mountains and caves trying to escape from the fury of a wicked king. He was finally crowned king. At a point in life, he committed adultery and virtually orchestrated the death of one of his soldiers, Uriah the Hittite, all within a short time. God did not spare him. He also numbered the men in his army and God took him on.
All these were not mere experiences for the greatest king Israel had; they were all opportunities to know God and understand His ways. Is it surprising that a lot of his writings are about God’s character and His ways?
No wonder he also stands as the greatest worshipper in bible times. The praise and worship we see today comes mostly out of the gift of music more than our experiences with God. Some of the people who sing beautifully today must sit at the feet of people who know God to be taught the ways of God.
Prayer
1. Thank God for every experience you have had in your Christian life, both bitter and pleasant.
2. Pray through all of them and see what you learned about God in each of them.
3. Father, please open my eyes to see what you are teaching me about Yourself in this life.
Declarations
I declare that my God is wiser than all. Nothing is of no value to Him. In every experience of life, He has something good to teach me. I, therefore, yield my total being to every experience He takes me through. My spirit will remain open to receive instructions from the Holy Spirit as I go through them all. I declare I will come out better as I learn the ways of God through all the changing scenes of my life in the name.
