THE LAMP DEVOTION
Philippians 4:11-13
11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things, I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
These are one of the few moments when the Apostle Paul makes reference to himself regarding what God is making out of his life. Today, he is sharing about the Paul who God had made for all seasons. He said he had learned in all things to be content with the state he found himself in.
God must have taken him through the changing scenes of life, in trouble and in joy. That is the only condition out of which a person can speak of learning to abound and be abased. That was also the background to the declaration “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens meâ€
What we must know today is that the declaration “I can do all things in Christ†is not a slogan. It is not a magical statement that wishes troubles and difficult situations away. It is a statement that enables a person to go through both the pleasant and unpleasant situations in life. This mentality and its attitude are what take away the tendency to complain, weep, question God, or say those things we say when things are not going the way we expect.
Paul says we should arm ourselves to go through all of them and not break down. When we have gone through them all, then we can say that through Christ we can do anything.
Prayer
1. Thank God that we have the Foundation to go through the changing scenes of life – Jesus.
2. Pray that your thinking will be oriented towards enduring situations without breaking down.
3. Father, please help me remain strong to go through anything that comes my way in life.
Declarations
I declare that God is making me a man of all seasons. He is preparing me for any situation I may encounter in this life. I am yielded to the process. Therefore, I shall come forth as a strong person. No situation will be able to knock me off my feet. The declaration on my lips henceforth shall be “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens meâ€.
