Villarreal slay the Red Devils – Villarreal vs Manchester United (Match Report)

The final of the Europa League played at the Stadion Miejski in Gdansk, Poland on 26th May 2021 ended after a penalty shootout. The score was 1:1 after regular time and there was no change in the scoreline after extra time and could only be separated by penalty shootout.
There were several chances created with Manchester United getting a total shot of 7 with 2 shots on target and Villarreal with a total shot of 8 with 1 shot on target. Both teams were practically poor overall with more chances but nothing coming out of it. Villarreal could have taken a two-goal lead early in the second half with Bacca after he received a cross from Pedraza but the Defenders of United were able to parry the ball away. Edinson Cavani made it 1:1 for Manchester United after a corner and deflected shot from Scott McTominay run into his path. There was a big chance for Marcus Rashford in the 81st minute but played the ball wide to the left side of the pole.
The Match went to extra time after 90min and a 1:1 scoreline. At the extra time, both teams created chances but yielded no results so the match went to penalty since only one team will be allowed to walk away with the Cup.
All 22 players from both teams took part in the penalties which ended Villarreal 11:10 Manchester United with David De Gea's penalty parried away by the Villarreal goalkeeper.
