One challenge most developing countries face with regard to tourism is, they possess several tourist sites which could be developed to maximize their revenue, however, only a handful are fully developed and marketed to attract tourists. Ghana is no different! This article, thus, throws light on the lesser-known attractions that have their arms widely opened to welcome you once you are in Accra, Ghana.
1. Arts Centre: The capital city's Centre for National Culture (CNC) exhibits the total circumference of the Ghanaian diverse and unique cultures. Send home an affordable kente made products, local textiles, leather bags, wooden carved sculptures, arts and crafts and precisely anything you can think of.. You will be filled with smiles as you observe each shop, the arranged goods and souvenirs been displayed.
2. Ghana Trade Fair Centre: Include the Ghana Trade Fair Centre as part of your visit to Ghana. You can spend more than an hour visiting a list of shops, exhibition halls, stands and pavilions. The primary purpose of the trade fair initiated by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is to stimulate the country's international trade and to promote coalition of Pan-African countries.
3. Du Bois Memorial Centre: A citizen of Ghana, Pan-Africanist and an African-American historian is the man W. E. B Du Bois to whom this place was dedicated to. Per the invitation of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Du Bois lived in Ghana while compiling the Encyclopaedia Africana. See the works of Du bois which are helpful to researchers at the centre's museum. You can locate both his grave and the ashes of his second wife at the centre.
4. Jamestown Lighthouse: Built in 1930, the lighthouse still stands tall. It is 28meters. A stone tower which catches your eyes from a farther distance with its red and white paintings in circular bands. The area is also known for the Chale Wote Arts festival which creates opportunities for artists to showcase their talents.
Whenever you are in Ghana (Accra to be specific), make sure you visit these sites to enhance your experience further in the hospitable West African country!
I agree with you on the attractions except the Ghana international Trade Fair. As we speak, the place is no more and it would embarrassing visiting there. But it is a nice piece and that is a good observation.
