THE LAMP DEVOTION
Colossians 3:1-7
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them
We often identify three enemies of the Christian as the devil, the flesh, and the world. As a matter of fact, they are all one and the same. The devil is on top of a system called the world which operates outside the purpose and principles of God. It is an opposing system to God’s established way of life for humanity.
The devil raises followers into his kingdom by appealing to their flesh: the natural, fallen part of man that is rebellious to God and always wants to have its way. Paul lists several manifestations of the flesh and leaves no doubt in anyone’s mind about God’s position. God hates these and all who walk in them voluntarily take themselves out of God’s bliss and provision, and every good that God offers humanity.
The devil’s most powerful ally against the Christian is the flesh. He used the desires of the flesh against Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and has continued to use that today. We should take Paul’s instruction through the church in Colossae very seriously so we will always overcome the devil.
Prayer
1. Thank God for constantly exposing the ways of the devil to us in the warfare of life.
2. Pray that you will put to death all that is of the flesh and walk by the spirit.
3. Father, please let the cross of Christ crucify my flesh and make me strong against the devil.
Declarations
I declare that my flesh is crucified. I died when Jesus died on the cross at calvary. My portion is the new life in Christ. I therefore give no provision for the flesh to lead and control my life. From now I choose to live by power of the Spirit of God working through my spirit. I declare by the grace of God that I will remain a spiritual Christian in the name of Jesus.
