THE LAMP DEVOTION
1 Timothy 6:11-12
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
If you want to have an idea about what Paul describes as the good fight, read the preceding verses to the above passage. Paul warns about the love of money and the fact that those who pursue it having fallen into diverse troubles and all kinds of harmful lusts. This example presents the fight of faith clearly as fleeing all kinds of lusts and pursuing righteousness. Truly, that is what the Christian faith and life is all about – daily overcoming all kinds of temptations and honoring God with our lives.
The reading of the Scriptures, the praying and all the activities and programs people engage in are meant to equip us so that the new life of Christ birthed in us when we became born again will spring forth. If this new life is not springing forth, it places a question on whether we are truly born again.
Before this time, we were lost in sin and all kinds of transgressions. The transition from a sin-controlled life into the life that glorifies Jesus Christ is the fight we are all engaged in
Because of the workings of the flesh in us, this became a fight. Elsewhere he teaches that the spirit fights against the flesh and the flesh against the spirit. Every born-again Christian is engaged in this fight. The closer you get to God the more the reality hits you. If we co-operate with the Holy Spirit, we will experience daily victory, otherwise we will walk in constant defeat despite Christ’s victory for us.
Prayer
1. Thank God for birthing a new life in us when we received Jesus as Lord and Savior.
2. Pray that with the power of the Holy Spirit, you will always be victorious in this fight.
3. Father, please help me stand fast where Jesus stood so I can always be victorious.
Declarations
I declare that victory belongs to me because I am in Christ and He is in me. Together we form a strong team against Satan. The Holy Spirit is my Helper. In His power alone I fight this fight. Because of this I win all the time. I declare by divine authority that my life henceforth, will show the fullness of Christ in me in the name of Jesus.
