Any Elijah’s In The House?

THE LAMP DEVOTION
James 5:16b-18
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
When you read questions like today’s theme, it immediately suggests that fervent prayers are no longer the order of the day. If Elijah had to pray earnestly, it just means he had to do that against the odds. He may not have had it easy, but he persevered.
There is too much information in our world today and prayer is being pushed into the background. There are people who even say that the church prays too much in the face of so much information in our world today. Remember the same Bible that said that in the last days knowledge shall increase, is the same that warned that in the last days men shall be lovers of themselves than lovers of God.
Prayer is not only to ask God for information we need to deal with situations. It is also to fellowship with Him. Can you not figure how many libraries we have in the world today and how many millions of books store information about the earth and life? What information again do we need to make our lives better than what is already stored in them.
What we need is God’s direct intervention in the issues confronting us. Have you wondered why as a pastor your congregation has so much information that they can finish your statements when you begin them; and yet their lives seem to be going in the opposite direction? Or are you a business person or a professional who has played by every word in the books and still not breaking through? Without God’s direct intervention, nothing we do will get to its logical conclusion no matter how knowledgeable we are.
Prayer
1. Thank God for always being ready to hear His children speak with Him.
2. Pray that you will not avoid God in your life because you know too much.
3. Father, please help me not to choose knowledge above fellowship with You.
Declarations
I declare that I have a heavenly Father who loves me and desires to have fellowship with me. I choose to set time aside for intercession and communion with Him. I choose my relationship with God above anything I do and I declare that my life will take a turn for the better as I pursue the presence of God in the name of Jesus.
