Kotoko donated money to Hearts in 1974 to use for their Africancup campaign
When Accra Hearts of Oak won the fiercely contested Ghana National League in 1974, they had the honour of representing Ghana in the African Club Championship.
While the Phobians were in training camp preparing for the competition, they received an unexpected visit.
The visitors were from Kumasi. They were officials of sworn rivals Asante Kotoko. What had they come to do?
The Kotoko officials first congratulated the Phobians and also explained that, they had enough financial stock in their accounts and since they were not going into Africa that year, they deemed it right to present some cash to Hearts to enable them prepare adequately for the African cup in order to make Ghana proud.
Hearts received the cash and expressed their gratitude to their Kumasi brothers. In the picture, Mr Sarpong Kumankuma, a member of Kotoko's Accra Advisory Board, presenting the cash to then Hearts chairman Mr. G.Osekere.
Later, the Hearts officials revealed that, amount was heavy enough to fund their flight and accommodation for their trip to Central Africa Republic where they eliminated Real Olympique Bangui by 9-4 on aggregate.
Hearts reached the quarter finals that year.
