THE LAMP DEVOTION
Luke 10:17-20
17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.†18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.â€
Being the good Teacher He is, Jesus at a point in His walk with the disciples sent them out to practice what He had taught them by instruction and by demonstration. This was even before the Holy Spirit came upon them on the Day of Pentecost. They came back with exciting reports, how even demons were subject unto them.
Jesus quickly affirmed the fact that made their experience possible. He had given them power to trample over serpents and scorpions. Are you surprised at what happened after the Day of Pentecost? You should not be surprised. If at pre-Pentecost demons were bowing before them, what else should anyone expect after Pentecost?
Pentecost happened over 2000 years ago, but it was meant to be a permanent experience. In other words, the outpouring that happened on the Day of Pentecost is a permanent feature. We can have more Pentecost today and in the years ahead.
For as long as the final trumpet has not sounded and there are still souls to be won into the kingdom, the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit shall continue to abide with believers. If there was a time in human history when believers must walk in Christ’s authority, it is now. Let’s go set some captives free, heal the sick and bring more into the kingdom.
Prayer
1. Thank God that Pentecost is still alive with you and me today.
2. Pray that you will be able to draw from the Power of the Holy Spirit to exert authority over every work of Satan around you.
3. Father, please keep me always walking in the authority of Christ.
Declaration
I affirm that the power and experience of Pentecost is still available for me today. The power to work miracles is still with us. I refuse to walk in fear and timidity. I will not walk in doubt and uncertainty. I propel my entire being into walking in the authority Jesus has given me over serpents and scorpions and over every work of the devil by divine authority.
