We Have An Advocate

THE LAMP DEVOTION
1 John 2:1-2
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world
The Christian life is full of ups and downs. One may be up at one point and down at another. Sometimes our down moments extend to yielding to all sort of temptations resulting in sinning against God. That can be quite frustrating, especially when the world knows that we are Christians and not quiet about it.
Just to remind you, Jesus walked on our earth. As a Man, he encountered all the temptations we do today. Can you believe that one day the people were forcing to make Him their king? People would come and lay at His feet. Even though He is always worthy of worship, as a man, He often forbade people from doing it.
Jesus went through all these, but the testimony about Him was that He did not yield to any of these. There were a lot of women in His company. One even broke her alabaster box of ointment at His feet. Can you imagine that happening to a pastor today?
The truth here is that because Jesus was tempted like us, He is able to plead with the Father on our behalf. He can always tell the Trinity, “I know what they are going throughâ€. Don’t live in sin, but don’t kill yourself because you fell into sin. Quickly go to our Advocate and He will speak on your behalf before God.
Prayer
1. Thank God for allowing Jesus to go through the experiences we do today so he can plead our case.
2. Pray that you will not yield to temptation, but always go to our Advocate.
3. Father, please help me continually live a life free of sin.
Declarations
I declare that I am walking in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. His power is available to me to overcome sin. I also acknowledge that in the down moments of my life I often lose guard and fall. In those moments, I look up to our Advocate, our Lord Jesus who understands my plight. Jesus speaks for me what no man can do. Therefore, I will forever depend on Him to overcome temptations in the name of Jesus.
