A Single Doubt Is Enough

THE LAMP DEVOTION
1 Thessalonians 5:16-22
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
There is one thing we must discern in our discipline to watch and pray. Temptations that are obvious are easier to handle than those that come clothed in all kinds of goodies. At the same time, there are issues that may not necessarily mean we have committed evil but give the semblance of evil. I believe those are the ones referred to as “appearance of evilâ€.
How do you identify the appearance of evil and eliminate that from your life? Take for example that a single male is found almost always alone in a room with a single female. They may not be involved in sexual activity but people start expressing concerns about the frequent isolation of the two.
It is common for the couple involved to come out and offer the strongest defense that nothing wrong is going on. Now that is an example of appearance of evil. Can that situation be avoided to alleviate the concerns of the onlookers? Take the situation for example that during those moments the lady gets pregnant by another person. The immediate conclusion everyone comes to is that the first brother is responsible for the pregnancy. It will have to take a process, possibly including a DNA test to exonerate this brother.
How many things are you doing which are giving wrong signals about your integrity that you are taking for granted? We must run away from sin as well as the appearances of evil.
Prayer
1. Thank God for giving you wisdom to live your life as a Christian.
2. Pray that you will use this wisdom to discern the appearance of evil and not get trapped in it.
3. Father, help me to be pure through and through, so your name is not blasphemed because of me.
Declarations
I declare that I hate sin to its very roots. I resist every temptation that comes my way through the power of the word of God in me. From today, I shun all appearances of evil. I refuse to be caught up in something terrible that will bring reproach to the name of the Lord. By the grace of God, I choose to live a life of absolute holiness to the glory of God in the name of Jesus.
