THE LAMP DEVOTION
Galatians 5:16-21
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The number one enemy of the child of God is the devil. We cannot see him physically because he is a spirit and works through demons who are also spirits. Although we cannot see him, we are aware of his mode of operations.
The devil did not force Adam and Eve to go along with him. He appealed to a part of them that was vulnerable; a part that they had control over. Our first parents fell to the deceptions of the devil. He still uses that strategy today.
The Apostle Paul writes here about the works of the flesh. The flesh is the fallen part of man that has the tendency to move towards evil. When people are inhabited by demons, the demons are cast out. Unfortunately, when someone is full of carnality, the flesh cannot be cast out. The flesh must be crucified and that is a process that requires man’s willingness to yield to God. The untamed, subdued flesh is man’s true enemy. Without that the devil has no ally in man.
Prayer
1. Thank God for giving you the Holy Spirit when you became born again.
2. Pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit you will combat the flesh and its lusts.
3. Father, please help me draw strength from the Holy Spirit to crucify my flesh.
Declarations
I acknowledge the work Jesus did on the cross for me. I believe in the power of the cross to crucify the flesh. I appropriate the crucifixion of Jesus in my life. My flesh is being crucified daily in accordance with Jesus’ work on the cross. This work will ever cease in my life, till my whole being glows with the life and light of Christ.
