THE LAMP DEVOTION
2 Corinthians 5:16-17
16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Jesus came to our earth in human form. He was born to Jewish parents. His earthly father was a Carpenter. At one point in His life the people referred to Him as the carpenter’s son. Some also asked what good could come of Nazareth. All these are issues that relate to our natural world and life. All those constitute knowing Him according to the flesh. He was seen as just another man.
At the time the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, Jesus had died on the cross for our sins, taking our shame and guilt upon Himself, He had risen from the dead and shown himself to the disciples, including Paul at a later time. At that point the reality of Jesus being there before the worlds were made was now firm in the minds and hearts of all who believed in Him. They had no doubt that they had encountered Deity.
Out of the experiences he had with Jesus, Paul could now authoritatively write, that all who come to Jesus shall become new; changed from inside out. That became the acid-test that someone has indeed become born again: everything about you begins to change. It starts with your heart, influences your mind, then your attitudes, then your entire behavior shows that you are different now.
The people around you are the first to notice and start talking about your new life. They see old ways give way to new ways of behavior from you and even begin glorifying God.
Prayer
1. Thank God that He saved you when you opened your heart to receive Jesus Christ as Lord.
2. Pray that you continue to experience newness in Christ; evidence that you are His child.
3. Father, please help me live like Jesus lived, as a testimony of my transformation.
Declarations
I declare that I am no longer the old person everyone knew me to be. I am a changed person by faith in Christ. I may not be perfect now, but I am on the path of being transformed into His image. I declare by the grace of God that when this work is fully completed in me, I shall look like Him in the name of Jesus.
