THE LAMP DEVOTION
1Timothy 6:11-13
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate.
What did Paul mean when he exhorted Timothy to fight the good fight of faith? For many, Christian warfare is about fighting demons and binding and loosing. To some it is about taking breakthroughs that the devil has sat on for several years, and to many still, it is learning and using a certain language and terminologies showing that they understand the spirit world and what happens there, and can command demons and speak to angels, etc. These are far from what Paul wrote to Timothy.
Paul exhorted Timothy to flee youthful lusts. The fight against lusts seems tougher than the fight against demons. When we encounter demons, we cast them out in the name of Jesus; and that is what many have done, and many are still doing. But who will cast the lust of the flesh out of someone?
The flesh does not go by a simple command. It is crucified, and that is a long process. The struggle you go through trying to exhibit the full image of Jesus Christ is the greatest battle you are fighting today. Our fallen nature always gives him power over us and so you hear Christians engaging in unhealthy acts, bringing disgrace to themselves and to the body of Christ as a whole. This fight is about standing in the image of Christ at all times.
Prayer
Thank God for the opportunity to continue to be His child.
Pray that the elements of your flesh will be crucified and give way to the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life.
Father, please take the Adamic nature out of me and cause me to walk in the nature of Christ.
Declarations
I know I am engaged in a fierce fight. What I need is the power of the cross to overcome my flesh with its affections and lusts. In the power of the Holy Spirit, I shall prevail and continue to prevail. I shall not stand in my strength; I depend on God every minute of the day and victory shall surely be mine in the name of Jesus!
