THE LAMP DEVOTION
43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
This passage sets out one profound truth that can never be circumvented. You must be, before you can do. Simply put, you cannot bear mango fruits except you are a mango tree.
Jesus took it to the next level. He said a good tree does not bear bad fruit; neither does a bad tree bring forth good fruit. Let’s take this from another perspective. God does good things to us because He is good. That is His nature. It is like He has no choice than to be who He is. That’s what we mean when we say, “God is good all the time, and all the time God is goodâ€.
If you are not a good tree, the only things expected from you are bad things all the time. If you are however a good tree, only good things will be expected from you, just like God our heavenly Father.
Have you looked at somebody’s behavior and asked if the person is truly born again? That is what I am talking about. If you are not born again, no one should expect the life of a born-again person from you.
The conclusion of this matter is that you simply yield to God to change you from within instead of trying to do good acts to convince people that you too are a Christian.
Thank God for His promise of transformation in the character and image of Christ.
Pray that your transformation will be ongoing, yielding to God’s process.
Father please continue Your good work in me till I am fully manifesting Christlikeness.
I declare that I am a new creature in Christ. At Calvary He took my sinful nature and gave me His holy nature. Ever since, He has been working in me to transform me into a His likeness. When His work is perfected in me, I shall bring forth only good fruits all the time. I yield to God for the process He began in me to be completed in the name of Jesus.
