What's our destiny? (OUR INDEPENDENCE MESSAGE)
By Agbesi BCIL
5th March, 2022
Dear freedom fighters
In fear we write
And in despair we come
It's been ages since you left
You departed with good memories
And here we are
Shamefully lagging behind
With nothing to boast of
Dear freedom fighters
We are still being colonized
Our minds have not been transformed
And in slavery we find ourselves
We lost the hope and confidence you instilled in us
We lost it all
The mineral, human and natural resources
Infact, all our assets
Dear freedom fighters
In disgust we stand before you
Nana num would not forgive us
And posterity is mad at us
We lost our people
We lost our lineage and our privilege to external patronage
We lost the good upbringing and training you taught us
And your fight seem futile
Dear freedom fighters
It's another year of celebration
We come to you in remembrance of our independence
Where we have no liberation
But rather slavery and corruption
We stand in economic recession
And in fear of hunger and war
We write with our sad hearts
We ink with our broken pens
We seek with our missing light
Dear freedom fighters
We pray from detrimental economic breakdown
We seek guidance
We kneel in prostration for the harm caused
We plead for the mistakes committed
We lay flat on the ground for the time we wasted
We are lost
We are exhausted
We are famished
We are left with nothing
We are in no position to hope
But we still hope
We pray
And believe
Through your guidance
And toil of our forefathers
That we still meet the good ones
For a better Ghana
Step by step we go...
Sometimes not knowing our way
Our body is always in a fight
With all its might
Trying to get our sight
Off the ditch
But we would not listen
That it's a heist
Which will eventually Rob us off
All our resources
Many call it our destiny
Only few see it as our misery
That reaped off our mastery
But we'll one day call it our history
To me it seems like a mystery
That will take me a trauma to understand it's drama
Because it looks like punishment from karma.
We struggle everyday
Not knowing what the future even holds for us.
We toil to fail
While they rob us in daylight
And kill our dreams at midnight
"We spend years in an antiquated educational system,"
"Studying subjects we will never use"
"Preparing for a world that no longer exists."
They introduced us to a system
Which we hurriedly embraced
To catch up with their light
But by the time we got closer, They got away speedily
Leaving us in the night.
Leaving the younger ones with no choice
But be hopeful of turning into corruption giants
We sharpen our teeth everyday
To take over the devouring job of our leaders.
They dictate to us
Enslave our minds
We learn their language
Wear their clothes
And virtually neglected every good thing of ours
But never learnt their management abilities
And their good sense of patriotism.
When at all can we become free
Our independence seem to me like a cliché.
This is modern mental slavery
Let the battle end
Let "Ghana, our beloved country be free forever"
Let Ghana be free in its mind
Let Ghana be free
Let Ghana be free
You and I need to wake up!
Wake up brother!
Wake up sister!
Let's make our motherland proud......
Happy independence day Ghana
Happy 65th birthday Ghana
Long live freedom fighters
Long live Ghana.
