THE LAMP DEVOTION
John 6:32-36
32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” 35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe .
God’s wisdom continues to baffle us. At a point in their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, God decided that he was going to provide food to His children by manna. Manna practically fell from the skies, (from heaven) to the Israelites. At the time this stood as one of God’s ways of taking care of His children.
When we fast-forward into the New Testament, we get God’s wisdom. Jesus referred to Himself as the Manna that came from heaven and told the Jews their fathers ate manna in the wilderness and died, but anyone who eats of Him being the True Manna from heaven shall never die.
Manna in the wilderness provided earthly, physical, temporary sustenance. Heavenly Manna in the person of Jesus Christ guaranteed eternal sustenance and security. God painted the picture in the wilderness and established the reality for His children in the New Testament and for us.
Today when we partake in the communion, we know we are partaking of the manna from heaven, with all the blessings God associated with the practice. Jesus said if we eat of His flesh and drink of His blood, we have eternal life. That created a problem for his hearers, but that was His way of affirming God’s truth for us today. In Christ we have eternal life.
Prayer
1. Thank God that the Manna from heaven is still available to feed us spiritually.
2. Pray that you will partake in the communion with a better understanding.
3. Father, please feed me on the Living Bread so I hunger no more.
Declarations
I declare that Jesus Christ is God’s true Manna from heaven, given so we can have eternal life. I am feeding on the Living Word and drinking from the Crystal Fountain, so I shall no longer hunger or thirst, not just in this life but also in eternity in the name of Jesus
