The senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana has called for a second strike this year for an unmet demand made to government. After a suspension of their earlier strike in January.
The association's demanded payment of Tier II pension of members from the year 2010-2016, payment of market premium and non-basic allowance, and finalisation of negotiations on their conditions of service by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
The leaders of the association expressed their concern that they felt deceived because Labour Commission promise them their demands will be met within two months after negotiating. Talks between government and the senior staff association led to a March 31, 2021 deadline for the resolution of their grievances.
On May 6, 2021 there was a statement by the senior staff association which stated their demands have not been met and that a strike will be declared on the May 18.
