Joshua 1:5-7
5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
This passage was a timely message for one who was about to take on the mantle of a leader who was moving on. Joshua had seen miracles worked through Moses. He saw the Red Sea part into two for them to cross over and saw the Egyptians drown in the sea. Now Moses was gone according to God’s own plan, and the mantle was upon Joshua.
God knew the magnitude of the task and did not want Joshua to see himself as incapable, so He took the initiative to bring him up. If you follow the bible narrative, you know that Joshua executed the task to God’s expectation.
God always uses someone to start something great, but that person is only human. When they are gone, the work must continue. The transfer of the leadership baton has been a challenge, especially in present times when God used individuals to start big things.
When done well, continuity of the good work is assured. Otherwise, whatever labor was put in the establishment of the work faces future danger. We need to pray for the most appropriate ‘Joshuas’ for our time to come to the forefront in their season.
Prayer
1. Thank God for His perfect plan for your life, particularly if you stand in line for leadership.
2. Pray that you will be humble enough to wait for God to establish you like He did to Joshua.
3. Father, please help me to wait on You, and please prepare me for Your task ahead.
Declarations
I declare that my life is not in my hands. God owns me. Whatever God has planned for my life is what I am ready to pursue. Where He leads, I will follow. While I wait, I open my heart and mind to God. I yield to the Spirit to help me remain humble and meek, trusting God every step of the way. I declare that I will allow God to develop character in me for the task ahead in the name of Jesus.
