THE LAMP DEVOTION
Ephesians 6:10-13
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Can you sing to yourself the song “Stand up stand up for Jesus ye soldiers of the cross; lift up His royal banner, it must not suffer long, from victory unto victory His army shall He lead till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed?â€
This hymn captures the profound truth Jesus taught about Christian warfare. Jesus said in the world we shall have tribulations, but we should be of good cheer because He had overcome the world. Note that in all the Apostle Paul’s exhortation he ends up calling us to stand. You stand fast in a position that has already been given to you. When God looks down on earth, He does not see a church that is defeated. He sees the victory of Christ over all principalities and power. He sees you and I called to stand and declare the victories of our God and King to the rest of humanity.
We can only do that if we stand. Paul helps us understand that the purpose of putting on the whole armor of God is not to defeat the devil since Jesus already defeated him. We put on the armor of God to stand in the victory of Christ; immoveable, unshakeable, not intimidated by the enemy. Make sure you are standing on the Solid Rock.
Prayer
1. Continually thank God for the victory Jesus won for you so you don’t have to fight in your flesh.
2. Pray you will be able to put on the whole armor of God to enable you to stand.
3. Father, please help me always to put on your whole armor to enable me to stand my ground.
Declarations
I declare that my enemy is already defeated. Jesus defeated the devil long before I was born. Therefore, in this warfare, I do not fight afresh; I simply stand in Christ’s victory. I put on the whole armor of God daily and I stand firm on the Solid Rock. I declare by the divine authority that I am always victorious in the name of Jesus.
