THE LAMP DEVOTION
Philippians 3:13-16
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
Most people after they have done all they can to achieve goals they set for themselves become satisfied and complacent. The danger here is that they begin to lower their standards because everyone is singing their praise. That marks the beginning of a downward spiral.
The truth about life is that you never get done striving for higher standards. What you achieved today is just preparing you for the next one which is higher, and that is why what you just achieved is called a stepping stone.
If we want to learn concerning moving up higher, the best example we have in Scripture is the Apostle Paul. He was a man of like passions like us. From the chief persecutor of the Christians in his early life, Paul rose to become one of the greatest Christians who lived. He was privileged to write more of the New Testament text than any other writer. Certainly, he was the greatest missionary of his time.
In his letter to the church at Philippi he recounts a bit of what his earlier achievements and later achievements had been, but he does not end there. He says he strives for something higher. Paul indicated he even desired that one day when he died, he would resurrect like Jesus did. That simply means his ultimate agenda was to be like Christ.
Prayer
1. Pray that God will open your eyes to see where He wants you to be.
2. Pray that the goals you set for your life will not be just temporal, but eternal.
3. Pray for God’s grace and direction as you achieve one goal after the other.
Declarations
I declare that I am seated with Jesus on high, far above all principalities and powers; therefore, I will not settle for things that are below God’s standard. With God’s strength I can achieve all He has for me. I will never settle for anything that has only earthly value.
I set my affections on the house of God and I declare by the grace of God that my reward in heaven will be great.
