THE LAMP DEVOTION
Matthew 3:10-11
10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
As we navigate the path of walking in fresh fire, we must constantly remind ourselves of the Baptizer of the fire. John the Baptist at the time of baptizing Jesus in the Jordan river made that profound statement addressing this issue. He minced no words in declaring who the Baptizer is. He said Jesus is the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Note that John was not referring to two different events. There is no baptism of the Holy Spirit separately, and then baptism with fire. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is actually the baptism with fire. God is described as a consuming Fire. It follows that if God baptizes you, He will baptize you with fire. A good reflection of what happened on the Day of Pentecost affirms this truth.
This experience calls for spending time with the Baptizer. Most believers today are very busy with things they consider very important and justify their actions. Inasmuch as they expect all to understand them, it does not rule out the fact that they spend their lives farther away from the Baptizer than they should.
Those close to the Baptizer are the ones who will never miss the baptism of fire, without which we cannot walk in total victory in this life. Make sure that however busy you maybe with things that look important, time with the Baptizer is not sacrificed.
Prayer
1. Thank God for the promise of the continual baptism with the Holy Spirit.
2. Open your heart every moment of your life to receive fresh baptism of the Holy Spirit.
3. Father, please help me remain permanently open to the Holy Spirit.
Declarations
I declare that my heart is ready for a fresh baptism of fire. I set myself apart for the Holy Spirit. My times and moments are all yielded to Him. In His presence shall I dwell morning noon and night, till I am fully fired up again. This is my portion, and l declare that this moment shall not pass me by in the name of Jesus.
